STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – A couple with a passion for travel and the outdoors planted new roots in Staunton in January.

After liquidating their home, cars, and other assets, Lisa and JC Burchett bought an RV and explored campgrounds across the country to learn how to manage them.

Working with an investment firm Team Outsider, they received a call that took them to the Shenandoah Valley.

“We got a phone call that Walnut Hills in Staunton was available, we were like, we looked at each other and said this was our opportunity, let’s take it, so we did it. And so we took over the park in January, and you know it took a lot of work, but it’s great, it’s a passion,” said Walnut Hills Campground Co-General Manager JC Burchett.

Since taking over the Walnut Hills Campground, the couple have renovated many areas of the 44-acre property. The Burchetts have made improvements to the 137 sites and 13 cabin rentals and its amenities, and say they are excited to be part of a growing area in the valley.

“We have breweries, we have wineries, Blue Ridge Parkway, there’s Shenandoah National Park. So there’s so much to see and do here that you could really stay here for a few days and make it a real family vacation getaway and that’s really what we’re trying to do here at Walnut Hills,” said said Lisa Burchett.

The couple also have a wall on site for families to paint a brick with their favorite camping memory to come back and cherish the memory years later.
