New Delhi, January 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a lengthy tribute to Pandit Birju Maharaj on Twitter, dance guru and MP Rajya Sabha Sonal Mansingh mourned the passing of a colossus she described as “a complete performer and an icon of Kathak dance”.

The acclaimed exponent of the Odissi and Bharatanatyam dance forms said in her tweet: “With her passing the curtain falls on an era of great art. Words fail to describe her multi-faceted personality, absolute passion for performing, l teaching, painting, singing and creating new works is unparalleled.”

Mansingh concluded by saying, “There never was or there will never be another like him. This is a personal loss to me. I will cherish his deep affection and friendship which he gave selflessly. May his legacy continue to illuminate the art world.”

Pandit Birju Maharaj, who was diagnosed with kidney disease a month ago and put on dialysis, died on Sunday evening at his Delhi home. He was 83 years old.
