TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The National Communications Commission (NCC) said it has discovered that Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G smartphones sold in Taiwan have seven built-in apps capable of filtering more than 2,000 politically sensitive words.

In one Press releaseThe NCC said on Thursday evening (January 6) that a program called “MiAdBlacklisConfigur” could be downloaded from servers through seven built-in apps on Mi 10T 5G smartphones. This program targets words deemed politically sensitive and prevents smartphones from connecting to related websites, he warned, adding that these apps are also capable of transmitting users’ internet history to servers in Beijing.

The commission said it conveyed its concerns to Xiaomi Taiwan, which denied the allegations. The Chinese phone maker said its phones do not censor user communications, restrict or block user actions such as searching, calling, browsing the internet, and using communications software. third.

He explained that the program in question is used to monitor paid content in order to prevent users from viewing inappropriate content such as violence, sex, hate speech and other information that may offend local users.

“We will continue our investigations to determine whether Xiaomi Taiwan has compromised the interests of Taiwanese users by invading their privacy,” the NCC said, adding that it would alert the relevant agencies “if the company violates regulations enforced by others. administrative authorities “.
